Our Purpose
We strive to provide the finest selection of quality, locally grown plant material in the New Orleans area. Our team is eager to share our horticultural knowledge to ensure that your garden thrives all year round!
Our Roots
Perino’s Garden Center was founded in 1949 by WWII veteran Salvador “Sam” Perino Sr. on the corner of Carrollton and Claiborne as a fruit market. In 1955 Perino’s moved to its current location on Veterans and began growing quality plant material 45 minutes away in the Covington area. The facility rapidly expanded to 300,000 square feet of heated greenhouse space and 10 acres of outdoor growing space with the help of the second generation.
The business has weathered its share of storms, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but were able to bounce back stronger than ever thanks to our loyal customers.
Our Future
We are now three generations strong! Our growing operation is always expanding, currently supplying 70 percent of the plant material sold at the Metairie retail location, with plans to increase. Our indoor home and gift shop has recently undergone a complete renovation to provide a welcoming space for our customers to browse unique gifts and décor from quality vendors and local artists.
