Our logo is inspired by the “Katrina” Iris, an African Iris that Buddy and Peter Perino cultivated, patented, and trademarked with the help of Monrovia Nursery in the years following Hurricane Katrina. African Irises typically develop issues with the excess heat and rain in our climate, however, the iris that the Perino brothers discovered not only withstood these extreme conditions, it thrived in them. We wear this flower with great pride, as it is symbolic of the perseverance of not only our multi generation garden center in Metairie, LA but the entire Gulf Coast as we face hurricane season each year.
A portion of the royalties from the ‘Katrina’ Iris are donated to our new partner, Pontchartrain Conservancy! Since 1989, Pontchartrain Conservancy has been a leading environmental advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the water, land, and the future of the sixteen parishes in the Pontchartrain Basin. We are delighted to work with such an amazing local organization and look forward to their future projects in coastal restoration and protection.
