Perino’s Home and Garden Center has been providing top quality plant material to the greater New Orleans area for three generations. While we're rooted in exceptional plants and gardening expertise, we've grown into one of the area's leading destination for home decor, gifts, outdoor living, and seasonal inspiration. In 2026, we celebrate 77 years in business!

• 1949

  The founder of Perino’s, WWII Veteran Salvador “Sam” Perino, established his business initially as a fruit market and local grocery store on the corner of Carrollton and Claiborne in New Orleans, LA.

  
• 1955

  With the help of his loving wife, Magdalene Perino, Sam moved the business from New Orleans to its current location on Veterans Memorial Blvd in Metairie. The now bustling retail highway was just a dirt road at the time.

  
• 1978-1981

  Sam and Magdalene’s two sons, Peter and Sal “Buddy” Perino were involved in the family business from a young age. Both received a bachelor’s degree in horticulture, Buddy from ULL and Peter from University of Florida. After graduating, the sons started working full time at the nursery.

  
• 1984

  Landscaping was a foundation of the business since the 60s, and in 1984, Perino’s had the honor of landscaping the Louisiana World Exposition, also known as The World’s Fair.

  
• 1993

  Sam acquired the northshore growing operation in Covington, LA, to replace his smaller greenhouses in Kenner.

  
• 2004

  With the help of his sons, Mr. Perino was able to expand the Covington growing operation to include 350,000 square feet of heated greenhouse space and nearly 20 acres of outdoor growing space. The family decided to discontinue the landscape department to focus on growing quality plant material for retail customers.

  
• 2005

  The business has weathered its share of storms, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005. However, thanks to the community and our loyal customers, Perino’s was able to bounce back stronger than ever.

  
• 2010-2019

  One by one, Buddy’s daughters, Megan, Catherine, and Emily, and Peter’s daughters, Madeleine and Adele, joined the family business.

  
• 2020

  Like many retail businesses, Perino’s had to temporarily close the retail gift shop for most of 2020 due to pandemic restrictions. This gave an opportunity to completely renovate the 6,000 square foot store to what it is today.This renovation elevated our home and gift store to be one of the best in the area, providing a “one stop shop” boutique experience for locals. Luckily, Perino’s was able to keep the outdoor garden center open for the entirety of the pandemic, providing a therapeutic escape for the community and retaining 100% of employees during the difficult times.

  
• 2024

  Perino’s Celebrates 75 years in business! The third generation continues to grow the business while remaining true to their grandfather’s roots.
